JOB TITLE: Painter
JOB SUMMARY: Prepares surface to be painted and/or stained, applies coating to surface in a professional manner.
Painting/staining of old and new surfaces in the Lodge, Inn and all property buildings and structures throughout Skytop.
REPORTS TO: Head Painter/Maintenance Manager/Director of Engineering
PRIMARY DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Repair drywall and other surfaces in preparation of applying paint
Hang drywall, applying finishing materials to drywall such as joint tape and joint compound. Sand and finish drywall to a high level of quality in preparation of applying paint.
Repaint or finish all existing surfaces on an as needed basis
Paint or stain all new work
Patch or repair walls, paneling, doors, and ceilings that have been damaged
Stain or paint special projects that come out of the carpenter’s shop
Mix pre-mixed paints to blend
Use brush, roller or spray gun to apply a variety of surface coatings such as paint, varnish, shellac, enamel lacquer or other protective or decorative finishes; apply undercoats and finish coats
Uses, in a correct manner, detergents for the cleaning of surfaces to be renovated or refreshed
Use, maintain and clean brushes, tools and other equipment as required
Erect, move and work on ladders and scaffolding
In order to carry out work, will move furniture, objects, etc.
Perform general clean up at job site; observe and implement proper safety practices
Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines in an environment with constantly changing priorities
Assist in performing other maintenance duties, as assigned
PRIOR EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years experience as a painter
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Supplies, equipment, vehicle keys, workspace cleanliness, personal appearance and uniforms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for lifting, climbing, crawling; working in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time; walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, lifting horizontally and vertically and reaching.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Ability to climb ladders and be on scaffolding and various lifts
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work can take place indoors and outdoors and can be located in any of the buildings on property. Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, inclement weather conditions; work in confined spaces; work in scaffolding and ladders. Schedule is Monday through Friday and is a dayshift.
HAZARDS ENCOUNTERED: Typical hazards associated with physical work involving tools, equipment, lifting, climbing. Stain, paint and mineral spirits can be hazardous is used improperly, ingested or comes in contact with eyes, skin, etc.

Requirements
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Competence in the safe use of all tools, equipment, chemicals, and supplies used in the required work
Competence in necessary procedures and routines associated with required work
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Good communication skills
Follow good health and safety principles and practices
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
High school education or equivalency preferred
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge in the use paints (latex and oil) and stains
Various painting techniques
Understand and apply painting trade safety standards and procedures
Methods and techniques of storing equipment, materials and supplies
Knowledge of prepping before painting ie; spackling, sanding, caulking and puttying.
PERSONALITY REQUIREMENTS: Must be reliable, trust worthy, courteous, team-oriented, self-motivated and able to take the initiative to work independently. Must be friendly and cooperative with guests as well as co-workers.
