Description
The Lead Plasma Center Specialist/Phlebotomist operates under the direct supervision of the Center Management team, and at times will take instruction from the Physician Substitute on site. The lead phlebotomist will ensure donor suitability, product integrity and the continued good health of donors through the compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, state regulations, and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual guidelines and any other applicable regulatory standards.
Shifts include working every Saturday. Shifts include all evening shifts
Duties to include but not limited to:
Read write and understand the English language
During slow periods the lead should stay busy and keep others busy prepping for the busy periods
Ensure donors are being seated quickly and appropriately
Ensure reactions are being managed well – leads in obtaining a nurse when needed
Assign sections at the beginning of the shift (a mix of experienced and new employees)
Manage and track breaks of donor room staff
Report issues (donor or personnel) to management
Assists in the training of new donor room personnel.
Ensure completion of side work, cart filling, etc. at beginning and end of shift
Ensure completion of weekly and monthly cleanings
Report machine issues to management
Available to travel up to 25 miles to other facility(ies) for training or assisting other center’s staffing needs
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or the equivalent.
Previous experience or education in a health-related field helpful.
Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Must be able to operate accurately the following equipment:
Computer (basic skills includes typing, following prompts on monitor, using mouse, saving information etc.)
Nexsys PCS
Expectations of Professionalism of Lead Phlebotomist:
Arrive on time or early to every shift
Call out very minimally. We are relying on you!
Help train or take the lead in training new hires or cross-trainees
Will support new personnel through their learning curve in a positive, encouraging manner and will address anyone not doing the same
Help maintain a positive environment for personnel and donors. Check your personal business and bad attitude at the door!
Always be willing to help any employee in need, despite how long they’ve been here
Always an example of perfect PPE and other company policies
Physical Requirements:
Read computer screens, procedure manuals and other documents
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Hear doorbells, alarms, telephone, and other mechanical devices
Work confidently while being observed during frequent quality inspections
Work in walk in – Subzero freezer(s)
Ability to lift, pull, tug up to 50 pounds to stock supplies and/or move or support donors
Regularly required to use hands and fingers, to handle & feel objects, tools and controls; reach with hands and arms.
Vision abilities required by this job, including close vision.
Required to stand for extended intervals, walk, climb and balance; stoop, kneel and crouch.
Physical ability to operate equipment used on donor floor areas that may require repetitive motion and manual dexterity.
Ability to read while standing or sitting in front of a computer for short periods of time.
Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) required such as eyewear, lab coats, and gloves
