We are seeking an individual who is passionate about joining a team in the manufacturing of high quality laminates and films used in a variety of applications including on cabinetry in kitchen and bath applications, countertops and paneling in recreational vehicles and in the enhancement of interior retail spaces.
The Calender Mill Operator will perform various duties to operate the extruder and the mill to bring the plastic material from the mixing section and provide a steady supply of material to the calender.
Key Responsibilities:
Understand and utilize Calender and mill safety equipment and procedures
Know and use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Understand RCRA and MSDS labeling and “Right to Know” requirements
Know all Mill and Calender emergency procedures
Know where all the emergency stops are located
Mill, Extruder and Strainer start-up and shut-down
Complete all head changes and technical changes, have a working knowledge of proper screen packs to utilize per product type
Adjust and access machines for cleaning
Monitor and maintain oil and fluid levels on mill and extruder
Control temperature and feed rate of material
Maintain housekeeping of the mill area/ organize all tools in mill area
Rework hot and cold trim into mill
Assist crew with calender functions
Maintain a record of all scrap material taken off at the mill and other reports and paperwork required
Manually work material on the mill if required
Use all material handling equipment required
Participate in start-ups, wrap-ups, etc. on calender line
Report quality or task difficulties to supervisor, Calender Crew Leader or appropriate personnel
Make crew leader aware of any conditions out of specifications of equipment
Know the various thread pattens for all conveyors, driven mill and calendar roll on the calender
Train and assist others as needed
Operate forklift when necessary
Learn skills, procedures or processes for advancement and improvement
Work with Calender Crew Leader to optimize quality and output
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area
Lead in changing Mill and calendar hot trim knives
Store, identify and record rework and scrap
Assist in buffing calender rolls
Clean floor and take out trash
Perform any additional duties as requested to meet business or production conditions or changes
Understand the quality system and all quality procedures relevant to this position
Assist the Calender Operator in maintaining a quality sheet
Assist Calender Operator in completion of Calender pass on logs, reports, records, and all necessary paperwork
Document and report all mechanical and electrical problems to Crew Leader, Supervisor, and maintenance
Report any and all quality or task difficulties to Crew Leader and supervisor or personnel
Available for OT as needed
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Frequently communicates and exchanges work information with others
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Basic computer skills to occasionally produce memorandum and other long documents
Ability to work together as a team in a high-performance work environment to complete the job on time
Mechanical aptitude
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds as needed
Frequently positions self to use/maintain personal protective equipment
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Comfortable with working in a manufacturing environment alongside machines, equipment, etc.
Ability to detect, distinguish, or determine the source of a smell
Exposure or works around chemical processing, unregulated temperature, dusty conditions
Desired Qualifications:
Prior extruder experience
Travel Requirements:
Time spent away from home or typical office location.
